Many can say they know the feeling of seeing your compact case, no matter what type of makeup is in there, dwindle down until you are scrapping all the corners in hope that you still have enough to use. It may be due wanting to get all your money’s worth before heading out to buy a new product or, you are too lazy to go to the shops and you try to delay it for as long as possible. I sit both of those, but more leaning towards the latter. A couple of weeks ago, I made the trip up to Mecca Maxima to get a new pressed powder. I had been using Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation in Neutral (Warm) for years. I loved how it was incredibly lightweight and had amazing coverage. It made my skin look luminous whilst not looking caked on.
However, after walking through the store about three times, I finally asked one of staff where it was. To my disappointment, it had been discontinued. You know the feeling when you’ve been using the same thing for years and one day it is taken away from you? Yeah, that’s it. Feeling a bit lost, the lovely lady serving me took me through some of the options that could replace the hole left by Urban Decay. She immediately suggested bareMinerals – to be honest, excuse my ignorance, but I hadn’t personally heard too much about this brand so I asked for other brands. She then suggested Nars however, although they have a large range of shades for their liquid foundation, their powder foundation offering was not so generous. I took her advice and went with bareMinerals and their product barePRO Performance Wear Powder Foundation which offers a total of 30 shades (!!). I was colour matched to find the right shade for my skin tone and after four tries, mostly due to me being unable to make out the difference between shades, we found the one: 12 Warm Natural.
I started using it the very next day and have been using it almost every day since then – and after quite a bit of scepticism, I love it! It offers everything my old Urban Decay powder used to but with a bit more coverage. The barePRO Performance Wear Powder Foundation feels really smooth and silky on the skin, leaving a matte glow. The best thing about pressed powder foundation is that I find it is so quick to apply when you have a brush, as opposed to liquid foundations. Not only that, your makeup doesn’t look over done when it’s just an average day. I used do both liquid and then powder on top but I realised that it was just too much. I preferred a much more natural look and I got it with absolutely no regrets.
