Meet Jen

Hi everyone! So we thought it might be a good idea to provide you all with a brief introduction on who we are as individuals. For my introduction, I thought I would tell you all a little bit about where I’ve been, what I’ve done and what I hope to achieve.

I was born and raised in Sydney’s western suburbs to a Chinese Malaysian father and a mother from Hong Kong. Now these two, I don’t know how they did it (and how they continue to do it). They raised me, showered me with love and gave me absolutely everything they had to offer – and they continue to do that every single day. I also have an older sister – I would have never admitted this when I was younger, but boy, she is my role model. She will always be the one I strive to be.

Now to my other half. I met my boyfriend/part-time wannabe photographer/full-time gamer back in 2011. Who knew we would be so similar? He’s stuck with me through the worst of times (like that time I couldn’t kill Garrosh unless he was in the same raid) and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My childhood was ordinary – went to the local primary school, then to the local high school. I guess I was somewhat of a sporty kid, I made it to the PDSSSC events for 100m sprint, high jump and long jump (an achievement for someone who is five-foot-three, I’d say!). From the age of about seven or eight, I decided I wanted to follow my sister to join a gymnastics club (so soon left the sport pretty much as soon as I started). I did this competitively for about six years, going all the way to the state championships. Unfortunately, I stopped being able to participate in this sport that I loved so much due to scoliosis (although minor, I wasn’t able to bend backwards without pain) so I chose to stop. Now, about eleven years later, I do it recreationally and I must say, I am pretty proud and what I can still do!

During my last couple of years of high school, I chose to study PE, Maths, Economics, and Visual Arts (we were required to also study English and Religious Studies). When you have a read over all those subjects combined, they don’t really make sense together do they? No, they really don’t!

Ok so, if you were to ask any of my high school friends, “What is the first thing you think about when you think of Jen?” – I can almost guarantee you that their answer would be a unanimous, “Harry Potter!” This love of Harry Potter I had (ok, you might classify it as an obsession) drove me come to the conclusion in the tenth grade that I wanted to become a movie director. I wanted to have the opportunity to work with these characters I adored! So what did I do? I chose every single random subject under the sun and went with it. After studying*, uh, moderately (?), I was accepted to study at the University of New South Wales, College of Fine Arts – majoring in Time-Based Art.

University was interesting to say the least <insert your typical university story here>.

The best thing to come out of university was the group of lifelong friends I made. The rest of it was just the story of how university helped kill my creativity.

Sometime after university, I started working at this little store called Burberry. And here, I met Joy.

Stay tuned to meet her
