Cafe culture has taken Sydney like wildfire. New cafes open up here, there and everywhere and I couldn’t be more happy. We are way past the regular eggs bene and there is so much attention and care that goes into each dish. The food is put together more creatively, usually with wellness in mind – otherwise, something that is both delicious and, sometimes more importantly, more Instagram-worthy.
I was invited to eat at the new cafe over at McMahon’s Point called The North Spoon. Easy enough to get to, it’s located on Blue Points Road. The cafe has a mix of both indoor and outdoor eating, both with ample natural light. We sat outside where there were two extendable tables and ordered the Gypsy Toast ($18) and Salmon Stack ($19).
French toast with prosciutto, grilled banana, strawberry couli, maple syrup & fresh berries
I was never really inclined to try dishes that combined cured meats with maple syrup, however, after tasting the prosciutto-wrapped bananas, my mind has been changed. The flavours work so well with the rest of the dish and I would definitely order it again. This is a big meal, so I would recommend just pairing this was a refreshing juice or smoothie.
Rosti, halluomi, rainbow chard, avocado, poached egg & spiced yogurt
This dish combines all the flavours I love and puts a new spin on it. It has a lot of texture which makes it even more delicious. Pair it with a coffee or milkshake – perfection!
