I’ve had a fair few people ask me how I stay in the shape I’m in – especially after they see me eat (when it’s time to feast, it’s time to feast – right?). I honestly don’t have a great answer for them because my fitness routine isn’t as harsh as they think it would be.
The Fitness Routine
Tuesday night: Double F45 session
F45 is a circuit training gym where there is a class of approximately 20-30 people with 2 personal trainers there for guidance and support. Each class runs for 45 minutes and it is a full body workout. I only do resistance-based workouts since I absolutely hate cardio. My endurance is beyond poor. I like the F45 setup because all the exercises are laid out for you with trainers and TVs to tell you what to do and how long to do it for. Put me in a proper gym and I wouldn’t have a clue as to what machine does what. I do two of these sessions in a row.
Thursday night: Gymnastics
I think it’s safe to say that all my muscles have been earned through gymnastics. I did it competitively for about 5-6 years starting at the age of 7. I recently started getting back into it after a long break. The session goes from 8pm to 10:30pm but since gymnastics is short bursts of explosive power, you don’t always have to be doing something for those 2.5 hours.
Ok, with complete honesty, I’ve only been doing this for a few weeks and like I said before, I have no idea what to do here. Thankfully I have a friend to tell me what to do (I really don’t like the idea of a 1:1 personal trainer yelling at me when I get lazy … ’cause I am lazy). I usually stay in here for about an hour to 1.5 hours and tend to do weights, working out my legs all the time … that’s the only thing I know how to do!
So, as you can see, I’m definitely not one of those people that go to the gym 5 days of the week. I only do workouts that I find fun. If you’re going to the gym but hate it, you aren’t going to be doing it very long and that 12 month membership is going to go to waste. I say, find something that you really enjoy and challenge yourself. Think of ways to make what you’re doing, harder.
And no, exercising isn’t everything. Your diet plays a big factor in it all as well. My daily lunch is usually a can of tuna and a cup of brown rice, topped off with a small can of corn. Yeah, it sounds bland AF (tip: get the flavoured tuna) but health wasn’t the reason I started eating this – it was money and time. During lunch at work, the kitchen is chockers will people heating up their food for 3+ minutes – I’m not impatient. Brown rice = 90 seconds. Tip all ingredients in a bowl and enjoy – easy. This meal costs approximately $10 for the week! Save that cash for clothes!
So that’s it really. Don’t forget to treat yourself on those Friday lunches or the weekend – but remember to keep it in moderation and don’t let it carry over into the next week. Oh yeah, and not snacking helps heaps too.
