There are always going to be haters. Always. But that will not stop me from loving how innovations like Instagram are opening my eyes to the beauty of the world – beauty, even in my own backyard. The ‘grams I’m referring to are photographs taken by a super rare breed, almost impossible to find amongst all the spam, bad selfies and just generally bad photos. Yet, they exist. They have somehow made me change my whole perspective of the city I was born and raised in. If you know me, you know I’m a pretty pessimistic person - I blame it on the years working in retail. I would look around Sydney and just think, “… same old grey boring, badly designed city” (the latter of that statement is oh, so true re: Sydney Trains. And, have you seen that Melbourne versus Sydney street map?).
But now, the metaphorical darkness has all but lifted from my eyes and I am hungry to explore. Sydney, you still suck sometimes, but I guess that’s what makes roadtrips that much better. And, although I love scrolling through my phone to find pretty things to look at, I would like to remind all those out there to look up from your devices, especially when you're walking for two main reasons: first, it's rude watch where you are going; and two, you're missing out.
